The last few months in Washington have been more volatile than ever before in America. First, there was arguing over the nation’s debt limit. Then there was a power trip within what is supposed to be the conservative political party in control.
Everyone wanted to get everything they desired. They wanted to run the government their way, for their own political or personal benefit instead of working together. They don’t care who is hurt as they get what they want and that is wrong.
The selfishness of man was on display for the whole world to see. Our sinful nature causes us to put our desires before others and we don’t see it. That is why Jesus had to teach His followers to put others first, instead of trying to please themselves (Matthew 23:11, Luke 6:31).
Jesus knows that it is hard to deny ourselves, and that’s why He had to pray for God’s will to be done on earth. Our focus as God’s people should be on God’s will and ways, not our selfish desires or whatever this world has to offer us that won’t last forever. We should be thankful God knows best and wants what’s best for us. I thank you, Lord for all you give me.
Jesus taught His followers to fix their eyes on things above and the treasures of Heaven. Because it does us no good to gain this whole world yet forfeit our souls. This world is temporary and won’t last much longer, it will only let you down.
The worse things get, the more thankful I am this world isn’t my eternal home (Colossians 3:17). Jesus taught His Disciples to be faithful in the little things. That way we would appreciate the big things all the more. Becoming disabled was the best thing for me because it humbled me.
After living with a brain injury for over 25 years, I have learned to find joy in the little things in life most people take for granted, I am grateful for the simple ability to walk and feed myself.
I’ll be the first to admit my life looks nothing like I had hoped it would at this point. My hopes and dreams haven’t materialized, but I am a long way from where I was before my accident. And for that, I am grateful (Psalm 118:1-18, Luke 17:15-16, 1 Thessalonians 5:18, Hebrews 12:28).
Back then I took a lot of things for granted, like tying my shoes and buttoning and unbuttoning my clothing. You never know how valuable these skills are until you lose those abilities.
Nor did I have compassion on those who weren’t as fortunate as I am; I remember steppin’ over the homeless while out clubbing. And for six years of my life I never once thanked God for the blessings I had.
Praise God If you got out of bed this morning, you experienced something a lot of people who died the day before will never get to experience again. I learned yesterday the great actor Matthew Perry died at the young age of 54.
Too often we want more in life, instead of thanking the Good Lord for the little things He has already blessed us with. Jesus taught His disciples to be faithful with little before they could worry about more (Matthew 25:21, Luke 16:10-12).
We need to learn to be better stewards of what God has already given us. Little in this life isn’t too much for eternity in Heaven with Jesus. The ways of this world don’t compare to the ways and glory of our awesome God and for that, we all need to thank Him!
