Over the holidays, most people tend to slow down. Who doesn’t enjoy celebrating the holidays with family? Since my birthday falls just before Christmas, it tends to be a time of reflection and hope; a time to pray.
I am a planner by nature and often use my downtime to think and make plans. I guess I feel like it gives me some sort of control over my life. Although I know nothing is really in my control. Typically, I plan out everything from my meals to my exercise and biking routines.
Even in my writing, I plan out my projects; of course, I am an avid outliner. I absolutely hate procrastinating and not being prepared. However, at the end of 2023, I found myself in an unusual position, and I had no plan B as I said Goodbye to the year.
I found myself having trouble curating ideas and completing routine activities. The entire year felt like it was a waste for me; I didn’t achieve many of my goals for the year. So I took some time to be still and listen to what God was saying.
One afternoon, I sensed God telling me I was in a waiting season. As I began to argue with God, He reminded me that his timing isn’t the same as mine. After spending last year looking at how God’s ways and plans are different than ours, God had to remind me that life doesn’t work on my timetable, oh Lord!
If you’ve spent any time traveling over the holidays, you understand the importance of having a dependable timetable. Timetables help us schedule activities and to go get it done. Timetables should help take the stress out of life, not add to it.
However, as most of us have learned, timetables don’t always work out. Life happens: weather delays, inconveniences, traffic, or health issues. It doesn’t take much to throw our lives and schedules into a chaotic whirlwind if our timetables fall through. Can you feel it? But, the older I get the more life reminds me that God’s timetable is bigger than ours because we march to a different drum.
Once we realize how big God is, we realize why God’s timing isn’t like ours, the perfect One sees things from the beginning of creation until the end of time. His timetable is beyond our understanding.
My God’s perspective is bigger and better than ours. Since God is forever—omnipresent and omnipotent; His timing is always perfect. His timing may not align with ours, but He is God and how has a plan already in place for our lives (Jeremiah 1:5; 29:11.)
If you are old enough to know that God’s plans and ways are better than ours, then it is a no-brainer that His timing is much better than your’s also. Can you hear me, I felt ghosted by God.
If we want to be in God’s will, then we must accept His timing also; even when it doesn’t make sense or may seem crazy to us. At this point in my life, I can honestly SAY I’ve finally learned to trust God’s timing, even when I am in a rush.
When we think of trust and belief, they go against my nature of knowing and being in control. However, as a Christian I know faith is believing without seeing (Hebrews 11:1.) I must learn to trust in God’s timing until I do see Him working.
God only knows the future; I know He is faithful and faithful, despite whatever I may be struggling with. A week ago I was struggling with what to write about to start the year off and when I let go, God came through with what He wanted me to write, what was stressin’ me.
I actually felt like I could hear the voice of God telling me to just trust Him and my perspective changed. Because God loves me I know that I can trust He is working things out on His timetable!
