Recently I had the opportunity to share my story on PJnet.tv. I shared about the hard times and struggles I endured after miraculously surviving a car accident. I explained the tragic news my loved ones were given by the neurologists and doctors.
At the time they were told I would never walk again and may never talk again. But, God only knows what the future holds and it turns out my brain injury was not goodbye.
My recovery has surpassed everyone’s expectations, a few months after my accident I was moved across the street from the hospital to a rehabilitation facility. It was there the therapists and neuropsychologists first explained to me that I was a walking miracle, God gets all of the praise and glory (Exodus 15:11, 1 Chronicles 29:11, 1 Peter 5:12!)
Yes, I have defied all odds and regained a lot of the things I shouldn’t have, but it was not because of anything I or the doctors did! A miracle is defined as, “A surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore considered to be the work of a divine agency.”
God alone gets the glory when He does what only He can do. Unfortunately, nowadays anytime somebody has a sports victory or great financial gain, the world defines it as a miracle because they get their heart’s desire. But, it’s not a true miracle if we did it. God doesn’t need or help doing His will, we need His though.
The world teaches and believes that as long as you are trying and believing, I can have all I’m after in this life. The Christian lens of miracles is, you cannot have a real miracle without a divine act of God. The world works in the natural, God works through the supernatural, not man-made effort or will.
The patriarch of the Jews Abraham thought he could help God fulfill His promise of a son and descendants as numerous as the stars, Abraham worked in the natural, it’s known now that God’s plan was to work through the supernatural. Abraham caused himself and the world a lot of heartache through his natural actions. Don’t say amen, yet.
Unfortunately, even God’s people expected God to work in the natural. For thousands of years, the Jewish people expected the long-awaited Messiah would save them, but they put their hopes into a mighty political and military leader, not a humble king born as a poor little boy on that first noel.
Even today, there is an entire political movement that believes it can save America just because they have conservative views. Yet, forget how God used the miraculous birth of Jesus to redefine greatness. Like our Jewish forefathers, we have forgotten that God’s ways are not our ways to sustain us (Isaiah 55:8-9.)
It’s no wonder Jesus declared Himself the way, truth, and the life, He is the embodiment of how our God works and it is contrary to this world’s systems. God’s plans are higher than ours (8-10.) The prophets even prophesied that God’s people would reject Him because they wanted to go another way (Zachariah 9-11.)
I have seen the Good Lord perform many miracles, even as I write this blog. Whether in my life or in the lives of others, God rarely works how we expect or want, but I believe his ways are better than mine. God’s not dead just because we don’t get what we want.
I’ve learned over the years that if I can figure out how to get what I want, it more than likely isn’t God’s will or time. As we celebrate Christmas, we should remember that God is a God of miracles, so He gets all of the glory.
But we also must remember that Jesus warned, in the last days false teachers and prophets will perform miracles to deceive God’s people by giving them what they want (Matthew 24:22-25.) Satan’s game plan is to deceive God’s people with what we want.
In the Christian faith, we know God’s ways are better, even if we don’t like them. God’s way is to bless His people forever with what they need, instead of greatness, He works through the miraculous!

I have been trying to live by the scripture “my expectation comes from God.” I don’t do it very well, but I’m trying to leave things in God’s hands. It’s a daily struggle, but if we want to see God move and miracles performed, then that’s the only way to go.
I was particularly moved by your statement about people confusing a true miracle with getting their hearts desire. They are not the same thing at all. May the Lord continue to build you up and strengthen you for His glory.
What an incredible story and blessing. Miracles are all around us and I love the stories about them. So glad God is healing you still.
Thank you for sharing your incredible story of God’s power and mercy. Obviously, God has plans for you. Blessings!
